The exhibition in Madrid featured a body of work using poetical and observational approaches to visually translate the dreams & screams of communities through the mediums of painting, photography, ceramic relief and graphic collage.
The Hackney Utopians invited the artist Michael Haill to be part of this exhibition.
All the artists in the collective are based in East London. Historically it used to be one of the most deprived areas in Britain but with the upcoming Olympics in 2012, the neighbourhood is undergoing some drastic changes, particularly in its landscape, housing, and businesses to the area. We felt that some of the changes within the communities happened to them rather then with them.
In 'The Small Screams of Communities' we wanted to give the voice to those communites who are trying to achieve changes they want rather then those which are imposed on them.
It has been great to work for this exhibition, developing and working on the ideas behind the project and sharing amazing creative moments & stressful deadlines. We would like to thanks Michael Haill for join us in this exhibition, Ernesto for his help with translations & for being a great host in Madrid and to our families and friends who help us and share all those beautiful moments with us.
