HACKNEY UTOPIAN'S EXHIBITION

From the 29th September-3rd of October
Hackney Gallery- Stoke Newington

The proposed exhibition would be a celebration of the people who lie in the graves in Abney Park Cemetery and of the people who live in the locality.

The park is a local landmark attracting visitors who enjoy its quiet, contemplative quality, the abundant natural world of the space and its rich history.

The process of preparation towards the exhibition will involve, an Arts Day that will include workshops run by the Hackney Utopian collective in collaboration with Abney Park Trust and Learning Centre. Work which will take the form of ceramics pieces and a ‘community game map’, made by Children and adults during the Family Arts day at Abney Park over August will be exhibited as part of the exhibition.

Each artist will make a series of works of art (comprising mainly, painting, printing, photography and ceramic-sculpture) in response to the community comments, the space itself and its history.

Previous projects by The Hackney Utopians have focussed on how the city environment affects the circumstances of communities. Running community art workshops, managing art projects, organising exhibitions and involving larger groups of artists is part of The Hackney Utopians’ artistic practice.
