WORKSHOPS AT ABNEY PARK- DAY 2
The workshop today involved making owls and night creatures on clay, painting night landscapes and finishing the map. Amazing results by the little artists and their parents!
In the afternoon participants took a board with their clay tiles on it out into the Park. They had to find something of interest to make an impression of, a leaf, some lettering or motif on a gravestone etc.
Then they came back and shape their piece of clay in the workshop space, in order that it fits into the overall shape of an angel.
Everyone did amazing prints and got a little bit wet from the summer rain!
The clay pieces will be fired and on display at the exhibition in the Stoke Newington Library in September.
Again many thanks to Abney Park Trust for their help and letting us put this on, to the wonderful volunteers Nina and Delphine, and especially to everyone who came and participated.
Keep an eye on this blog for future projects and exhibitions with the Hackney Utopians!

WORKSHOPS AT ABNEY PARK- DAY 1
Everyone had great fun and produced lots of beautiful work!
The workshop today involved making hats, birds and masks in the morning, colourful and innovative work was produced!
In the afternoon John from the Abney Park Trust told us some fascinating stories about the Park, then we divided into groups, each group was in a particular area of the park according to a map given by the artists. Back in the art studio they placed their drawings in the correct area of the "New Map of the Park ", then they used ink to draw their favourite spot.
There was a stretched canvas available all day for the children to draw on freely, inspired by the park.
One of the highlights was an improvised, creative and magical funeral ceremony and burial for Mrs Rat, which some of the children came up with on their own initiative, though obviously inspired by their surroundings!
Many Thanks to Abney Park Trust for their help and letting us put this on, to the wonderful volunteers Nina and Delphine, and especially to everyone who came and participated.
Come for more tomorrow including ceramics!!!!
